Kutná Hora is a city with approximately 20,000 inhabitants and is located in the Central Bohemia region. It is widely visited by tourists who admire and discover the history of Kutná Hora silver as well as historical and sacred buildings. Among the most visited are the Church of St. Barbora, the pride of late Gothic. Kutná Hora and its important urban heritage reserve are listed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. It is a city made for relaxation, surrounded by monuments, but also hosting festivals and various competitions. You will have a lot of fun in Kutná Hora and you will certainly not be bored.
The temple was built at the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century on the place where there used to be a chapel dedicated to the patron saint of miners, Saint Barbara. The construction was financed by wealthy townspeople and the Church of St. Barbory symbolized the power of the royal city. It was built behind the city walls, on the land of the Prague Chapter, which helped to make Kutná Hora independent from the Sedlec Monastery. It is an impressive and monumental building that we recommend visiting. From the Hotel Barborský dvůr you have an ideal opportunity to do this, as you can walk along Barborská Street to the Church of St. Barbara and to the Corpus Christi chapel.
On the way to the Church of St. Barbory is a large building designed by the Italian architect Giovanni Domenico Orsi in 1666. Construction work began in 1667 and the last wing of the building was completed in 1750. After the abolition of the Order, the building served as barracks and a hospital. Since 2010, the Jezuitská kolej has been the headquarters of the Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region – GASK. The Jesuit college is in close proximity to the Church of St. Barbora and you can’t miss her while walking.
The building is located in the Sedlec district near Kutná Hory. At one time, it was the largest sacral building in the territory of Bohemia and Moravia and belonged to the oldest Cistercian abbey in Bohemia. The original form was not preserved, because in 1421 the temple was burned and decimated by Hussite troops. Despite the fact that it was in ruins for 279 years, the cathedral received the designation SPLENDISSIMA BASILICA – the most magnificent basilica, for its monumentality, in 1681. In close proximity to the cathedral is the world-famous Constance of Sedlec, which is the underground chapel of the Church of All Saints . Take a pleasant walk across Kutná Hora, and don’t miss these historical gems.
Vlašský dvůr was founded in 1300 by King Wenceslas II. as a royal palace with a mint and completed around 1400 for King Wenceslas IV. The minting of silver coins, which was mined in the mines of Kutná Hora, took place here. You can experience the atmosphere of a medieval mine at Hrádek . There is a tunnel here, which you can visit with a guide and thus experience the conditions that the miners had when rolling silver. Today, Vlašský dvůr is a popular place for weddings and a popular tourist attraction. Vlašský dvůr is only a short distance from the Barborský dvůr hotel, and on the way you can stop at the church of St. Jakub , where you can admire the painting of the Holy Trinity by Petr Brandl, which is part of the baroque altar.
Kutná Hora offers much more than what we list on our website. However, the Plague Column, the Stone Fountain, the Stone House, the Czech Silver Museum Hrádek or perhaps the gardens behind the Jesuit College, where you can also find sculptures of contemporary art, are certainly worth your attention and a visit. Accommodation at the Barborský dvůr hotel, which is in the city center, opens up the possibility of beautiful walks around the area and monuments, all within walking distance.
